Kim Jong-Un

Rumors rapidly spreading on the Chinese version of Face book are that Kim Jong-Un, who recently became the leader of North Korea after the death of his father Kim Jong Il, has been assassinated.

The rumor says that he was shot early Friday morning in his house. The rumor continues that the assassin was then shot by one of the leader’s body guards.

According, again to the internet, support of this rumor is shown by a distinct increase of activity at the North Korean Embassy in China.

Kim Jong Il

This though, at the moment is just a rumor.

North Korea is one of the most secretive countries in the world and so it is difficult to confirm this rumor.

If this isn’t true, one of the reasons for an increase of activity at the North Korean Embassy in China may be due to the fact that, if Kim Jong Il was still alive, it would have been his 70th Birthday this week, so preparations could be under way for some kind of official ceremony.

Secrecy

Due to the secrecy that dominates the country, it is possible for this rumor to be true, yet not announced by the countries authorities.

If true, it could throw the country into turmoil.

The real question that will be wanted to be answered is would this create a more open or an even more isolated state?

Since Kim Jong Il’s death, many have been asking if Kim Jong-Un was capable of filling his father’s shoes and wandering if he would maintain a strong hold on his military or as to whether he would allow the State to become more open with renewed links to the outside world.

Certainly, if this rumor is true, the officials would require time to ensure some kind of leadership was in place before going public.

The longer and stronger this rumor becomes, if it is not true then the authorities should soon respond however, if the rumor is true then they may take some time in responding.

How may a change in North Korea’s leadership, change the rest of the world?

Since it is an introvert country, one may ponder on the reasons of this assassination! Was he a continuation of his father or an opposition? We may never know. However we may ask ourselves who may gain from his assassination?

WB - good analogy between JFK and Kim Jong-Un

The Vatican is known to use the same methods. Remember cardinal Romero of Managua, Nicaragua who sided with the Sandinistas at the Popes displeasure?

Wow. I had not heard a peep about this. In a most unstable world the idea of this just adds fuel to the fire. I think Wayne Brown said it best with the end of his comment.

It is always difficult to tell what is going on in countries like North Korea where so much is information is blocked and held secret. If this is true then there could be large amounts of problems rising in the North Korea.

If true it would definately show some political turmoil going on. Which is something the west has rarely seen from this tiny dictatorship. Thanks for the info.

If it is true, I suspect that it is an inside job designed to remove the young man by those around him. If that is the case, things can only hold the status quo or get worse. It could be that the young one was showing a softened attitude toward the West and that was viewed as weakness by those around him and the military. It is the same reasoning that eliminated Kennedy in the 60's...the desire for peace. WB
